Starting Wednesday, soccer fans can purchase special Metropolitan Transit System PRONTO cards emblazoned with the crest and colors of San Diego FC in honor of the team’s successful inaugural season.
While the cards are on sale for $2, a limited number will be free for fans headed to SDFC’s last regular season home game this weekend against the San Jose Earthquakes.
“San Diego FC has brought a new sense of hometown pride during its inaugural season, and now fans can carry that pride on their transit pass,” MTS Board Chair and San Diego City Councilman Stephen Whitburn said. “This special PRONTO card is a fun way to celebrate the team’s success, the excitement they’ve brought to our community, and to cheer them on as they head into the postseason.”
SDFC is the first team in the league to clinch a postseason berth and is tied with Los Angeles FC for the most points for an expansion side in Major League Soccer history, with Saturday’s game yet to play. The 2025 team could well go down as having the most successful expansion campaign in MLS.
“This partnership with MTS is another way we’re connecting with our community and celebrating what has been a historic first season,” said Jennifer Bower, San Diego FC vice president of premium, ticketing and partnerships. “The San Diego FC PRONTO card gives our fans a unique way to carry their hometown pride with them every day, and we’re grateful to MTS for making it easier for thousands of fans to come together at Snapdragon Stadium all season long.”
According to the transit agency, around 4,000 fans head to Snapdragon Stadium each SDFC game day.
MTS will host a pre-match event near the trolley’s Stadium Station from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday. Additionally, MTS will provide increased trolley service to and from Snapdragon Stadium to accommodate fans.
The commemorative SDFC card is part of MTS’ PRONTO Community Celebration Program, intended to “highlight and celebrate” the various communities of San Diego, focusing on the people, partners and cultures that make the transit system and region thrive. Future planned commemorative card artwork includes Black History Month in February 2026.
The limited-edition PRONTO cards are available at the MTS Transit Store, ticket-vending machines at select Trolley stations, and select station and stadium locations. People can also call PRONTO Support to purchase a card over the phone.
