JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – A self-described “homebody” has come forward to claim half of a near-record $1.78 billion Powerball jackpot prize.

The Missouri winner owned one of two tickets to match all the numbers of the Sept. 6 drawing: 11, 23, 44, 61, and 62, with a Powerball of 17. He purchased his ticket at a QuikTrip in north St. Louis County at 12110 Lusher Road. The other winning ticket was sold in Fredericksburg, Texas, about 70 miles north of San Antonio.

The winner, who now holds the record for claiming the largest prize ever won by a Missouri Lottery player, said he’s going to take time off and enjoy the experience.

“I’m going to just do me for a year,” he said, adding that he’s excited to spend more time with his wife, who be reducing her workload as well. “She’s going to drag me out of town now.”

The winner traveled to Jefferson City to claim his prize at the Missouri Lottery headquarters.

“I’m a millionaire, a multi-millionaire, and I’m doing laundry last night…,” he said.

Winning such a large sum of money has been difficult to fathom, he said. The player said he’s had many sleepless nights since the drawing, but it’s a problem he welcomes.

“I’m like a homebody. The perfect day is sitting at home doing what I do – relaxing,” he said.

The Missouri winner chose the single lump sum of $410.3 million. He had the option of taking $893.5 million over 30 graduated annual payments. The dollar amounts for both options are before taxes.

The QuikTrip that sold the winning ticket received a $50,000 bonus.
