The remains of a 14-year-old boy found in College Park have been identified, and on Friday Prince George’s County police announced they’ve launched a homicide investigation, police said.
The body of Jefferson Amaya-Ayala, of Washington, D.C., was found during a search of Indian Creek Stream Valley Park on Nov. 3, Prince George’s County police said. The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) and FBI Cross Border Taskforce were helping Prince George’s police with a search in a missing person investigation, and investigators found the remains, police said.
The remains were sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, which ruled Amaya-Ayala’s death a homicide.
“Detectives are working to identify a suspect(s) and a motive,” police said.
D.C. police released a flyer on Aug. 2 listing Amaya-Ayala as critically missing.
