Millard Fillmore Surgery Center to close in October

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Millard Fillmore Surgery Center in Williamsville is set to close in October, a spokesperson with Kaleida Heath said Thursday.

The surgery center, which has been operating since 1989, will close on Oct. 1.

Kaleida said the reason for the closure is due to “changes in funding and reimbursement, financial sustainability of [the] location, and access to similar services in the community.”

According to its website, the Klein Road facility is a “freestanding” facility. Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, located on Maple Road in Williamsville and also a Kaleida facility, is not impacted by the closure.

Thirty-two employees will be impacted by the surgery center closure and Kaleida is working with them to find new opportunities. Physicians who work at the surgery center will continue to perform cases at other Kaleida hospitals and outpatient surgery centers.

“We are extremely proud of the high-quality care that the center’s staff and physicians have provided over the years,” Kaleida said in a statement Thursday. “We remain committed to ensuring patients have access to the care they need and are working to coordinate a smooth transition of care.”

Kaleida operates two other surgery centers, located in Buffalo and Orchard Park. It operates an additional seven hospitals in Western New York and northern Pennsylvania, including Buffalo General Medical Center and Oishei Children’s Hospital.
