Maryland Gov. West Moore announced his 2026 reelection campaign Tuesday morning, saying he’s running again to stand up for the middle class.
Moore spoke of lowering taxes and crime rates and addressing unemployment in a video announcing his campaign. He took aim at President Donald Trump for “firing federal workers, gutting Medicaid, raising prices on everything from electricity to groceries.”
Moore is campaigning again with Lt. Gov. Aruna Miller.
“I am thrilled to stand alongside Governor Wes Moore as we launch our campaign to continue the work to make our public schools the best in America, to end childhood poverty once and for all, and to make sure more Marylanders can afford to live here, buy a home, create wealth for their families, and live a secure middle-class life,” Miller said in a statement.
The announcement comes after Moore told NBC’s Kristen Welker on “Meet the Press” that he is not running for president.
“Our population is growing, Maryland is moving, and so I’m really excited about going back in front of the people of my state and asking for another term,” Moore said Sunday.
Maryland Democratic Party Chair Steuart Pittman released a statement supporting Moore’s candidacy.
We already have an idea of who Moore will run against.
Democrat Ralph Jaffe and Republicans John A. Myrick and Carl A. Brunner, Jr. have filed paperwork with the State Board of Elections to run for governor.
Ed Hale, a lifelong Democrat, announced plans to run for the Republican gubernatorial nomination, saying he couldn’t compete with Moore for the Democratic nomination, WBAL reported.
