(KRON) — A Martinez man was arrested and charged with 11 counts of lewd acts on a child, the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office announced Thursday. William Daniel Eberly, 44, worked for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation at the time of his arrest.
Eberly, a former correctional sergeant, is accused of 11 offenses involving two child victims that occurred between Nov. 1, 2020, and Dec. 12, 2024.
Eight charges are for forcible lewd acts upon a child under 14 years old. The remaining three charges are for lewd acts upon a child aged 14 or 15 years old. Eberly pleaded not guilty to all charges Thursday during his arraignment.
Bail was set at $1.025 million, and the judge granted two criminal protective orders. As of Friday morning, Eberly remains in custody at the Martinez Detention Facility, jail records show.
A preliminary hearing in the case is set for Nov. 3.
