Manny Machado smashes homer as Padres even NL Wild Card series 1-1 against Cubs

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — With their backs against the wall after losing Game 1 of the NL Wild Card Series 3-1 to the Cubs Monday, the Padres needed a tally in the win column if they wanted to keep their playoff hopes alive in the best-of-three series.

The Padres delivered as the San Diego club shut out Chicago 3-0 on the road to claim Game 2 and even the series at 1-1.

Padres stud right fielder Fernando Tatís Jr. opened the scoring at the top of the first inning with his first run of the 2025 postseason, putting San Diego up 1-0 in the pivotal Game 2.

The Padres went on to score a pair of runs in the fifth inning when superstar third baseman Manny Machado belted a two-run homer off of Cubs’ pitcher Shota Imanaga.

Game 3 is slated for Oct. 2, at noon when the Padres will once again take on the Cubs in the Windy City.
