Man suspected of burglarizing a car in Irvine arrested

Officers with the Irvine Police Department arrested a man who may be linked to at least one car burglary in the area.

The investigation began earlier this month when officers stopped a suspicious car in the area of Jeffrey Road and Roosevelt as the vehicle had a damaged temporary license plate.

When the officers spoke to the driver, the man gave a “suspicious” story about why he was in the area, and he had broken glass in his pocket, according to Irvine police.

Officers also found multiple power tools in the trunk. But as there were no reports of burglary at the time, the driver was cited for a separate offense and released. His vehicle was towed away.

The officers later discovered there was indeed a vehicle burglary in the area and confirmed the power tools found in the suspicious vehicle turned out to belong to the burglary victim.

Detectives with Irvine police tracked down the suspect and located in Hermosa Beach before taking him into custody
