Man dies after slipping, falling off edge of Grand Canyon

GRAND CANYON NAT’L PARK, Ariz. (KTVX) — A 65-year-old man fell to his death at Grand Canyon National Park’s West Rim on Thursday, according to the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office.

At around 2 p.m. on Nov. 6, the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office received a call to help the Hualapai Nation in a technical recovery at Guano Point, a viewpoint on the western rim of the Grand Canyon. A 65-year-old man had reportedly slipped and fallen over the edge into the canyon and was deceased.

“Search and Rescue responded and located him about 130 feet down on a scree pile,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. “Technical rope technicians set up a lowering and raising system using ropes to recover him and convey the body to the Mohave County Medical Examiners Office.”

The Hualapai Tribal Police Department, Hualapai Nation Fire, and Grand Canyon West Security also responded to this incident.

“Our condolences are with his family,” the sheriff’s office said. “Please respect their privacy during this time.”

The identity of the deceased has not been released at this time. No further information is currently available.
