Man burglarizes Weld County Health Department, sleeps under desk

DENVER (KDVR) — A man was arrested for burglarizing the Weld County Health Department on Monday morning, according to a release on X from the Weld County Sheriff’s Office.

At 7:17 a.m. on Monday, Weld County deputies responded to the Weld County Public Health Department following a report of an in-progress trespassing. The reporting party said that a door to the building was propped open, and they saw a man on the second floor who was not supposed to be there.

Deputies set a perimeter around the building and used K-9 units to help find the trespasser. K-9 units were unable to be used in every office, as employees were still working in them.

The search was completed by 8:30 a.m., and the deputies could not find the man.

Shortly after, at 8:52 a.m., patrol received a second call at the Weld County Public Health Department building. The caller said that a man was found sleeping under a desk in an office that was not searched because it was locked while deputies were there.

Deputies returned to the scene and arrested the man. He was identified as 62-year-old Michael Jackson.

Jackson faces charges, including:

  • Felony second-degree burglary
  • Petty theft less than $300
  • Petty criminal mischief — under $300 in damages
  • Second-degree criminal tampering

The Weld County Sheriff’s Office said that none of the employees or deputies were injured during the incident.
