Local 13-year-old, Shaquille O'Neal to DJ holiday show in Denver

DENVER (KDVR) — Local DJs, including a 13-year-old boy, will join Shaquille O’Neal, aka DJ DIESEL, for a holiday show at Mission Ballroom next month.

“Shaq the Halls” is set for Wednesday, Dec. 3 at Mission Ballroom. The retired NBA star is headlining with support from Paws the DJ, the official DJ of the Colorado Avalanche and Denver Nuggets, local DJ duo Manufactured Superstars, and 13-year-old DJ Mesophonic.

Jerome Rondeau, known for his stage name Mesophonic, appeared on FOX31 last summer and talked about his performance with DIESEL at Mission Ballroom on Jan. 5, which went viral on social media.

Mesophonic, a local young DJ, showed FOX31 his track that DJ DIESEL, Shaquille O’Neal, played with him on stage at Mission Ballroom.

He said he had just arrived in Arizona on a road trip when he got the call inviting him to come on stage with DIESEL the next day, and they turned around.

“I want you to say hello to one of my good friends, Mesophonic!” DIESEL said while bringing him on stage. “Show him some love. Hands up for Mesophonic, he produced this all by himself.”

He was 11 years old and got to dance on stage with DIESEL to see the crowd’s reaction to his track Dollar Dreams.

He told FOX31 that he learned a lot of his production in lessons with help from boredomfighters, a locally based nonprofit music education organization that offers programs like summer camps, community workshops and production courses.

He pops up for performances around Colorado and shows his music to strangers he meets on the street around the world. He threw down some beats for people in line ahead of an Alison Wonderland pop-up show in Fort Collins earlier this year and often performs at small venues around Denver like Black Box and Larimer Lounge.

Mesophonic, a young DJ from Colorado, performing at The Black Box in Denver.

Now at 13, he is set to open for the “Shaq the Halls” show at Mission Ballroom, which can host nearly 4,000 people. His PR team said he will “open the night with a special performance celebrating Denver’s next generation of bass talent.”

The event is being presented by the Aurora-born cold brew brand Death Before Decaf. Tickets start at $74.11 and can be purchased online through AXS.
