Live electrical wires fell into a road in the northwest suburbs after a transformer was damaged, blocking traffic near a popular mall during rush hour Tuesday, authorities said.
Around 5 p.m. Tuesday, the Village of Schaumburg said traffic on North Meacham Road was blocked in all directions between Tower Road and Golf Road because several live electrical wires fell in the area.
“A transformer was damaged and caused several live, electrical wires to fall. There are dangerous, live wires in the blocked area. Please plan an alternate route and drive safely,” the village said in a post on X.
Roadways were reopened in the area around 6 p.m., the village said in a subsequent post.
Video on social media showed smoke rising from Meacham Road near Miller’s Ale House and Woodfield Village Green shopping center, kitty-corner from the Woodfield Mall.
No additional information was immediately available.
