Last remaining evacuation order lifted as Coches Fire is fully contained

(FOX 5/KUSI) — The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office lifted the remaining evacuation order that was in place due to the Coches Fire in the Lakeside area.

The agency announced shortly past 6 a.m. on Tuesday that it was lifting the order due to improved containment of the fire.

Most of the evacuation orders associated with the fire were lifted at 10 p.m. on Monday.

Despite residents being allowed to return, the sheriff’s office advised that firefighters are still working in the area.

The Coches Fire started on Monday afternoon, just before 3 p.m., near Los Coches Road and Interstate 8, in an area of brush nestled between two residential neighborhoods.

The fire eventually burned around 5 acres of vegetation before being fully contained.

According to Cal Fire, the Coches Fire destroyed six mobile homes, and crews are still inspecting homes around the perimeter of the fire to check for damage. One person had a burn injury and another was injured from smoke inhalation.

Officials have not determined how the fire started.
