Joseph Ferris declares victory in Hudson mayoral race

HUDSON, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Democrat Joseph Ferris has declared victory in the 2025 Hudson mayoral race. According to unofficial tallies, he beat out several other candidates, including a narrow lead over incumbent Kamal Johnson.

In a post on Instagram on Wednesday, Ferris thanked his supporters for the win. Johnson had posted on Facebook earlier in the morning that he would not yet be conceding, saying that “there are still some things about this election to question.”

This year’s race marks the first time that Ferris has ever run for office, though he has previous experience in city government. The Brooklyn-native has been a Hudson resident for three years and currently works as a government relations manager at an anti-hunger non-profit in Albany.

In his candidate interview with NEWS10, Ferris said that his top priority is earning trust in city government, including cracking down on those who have not been paying their property taxes. He also plans to improve safety at the city’s street intersections.

Johnson, who has served as Hudson mayor since 2019 but lost this year’s Democratic primary, ran under the Working Families party. He had aimed to continue boosting affordable housing throughout the city.

Republican Lloyd Koedding stated in his NEWS10 candidate interview that he wanted to create harmony between city government and the people of Hudson. He also said he wanted to keep city operations running smoothly.
