School Secretary – 10 Month

Glassboro High School is seeking a 10-month school secretary.
The daily working hours of this position are 7:00 to 3:00
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of a high school diploma. Experience in a related secretarial or office position is preferred with an intermediate or mastery level of Microsoft Office Suite.Knowledge of PowerSchool preferred. Work well with students, staff, and the public. Maintain the confidentiality of staff and students.
REPORTS TO: Building Administration
JOB GOAL/MAJOR FUNCTIONS:
In conjunction with greeting students, parents, and other staff members, the school secretary is responsible for providing information, maintaining student records, scheduling appointments, answering phones, and providing administrative support.
- Organize and maintain an efficient and effective office that handles a variety of tasks for the administration, faculty, students, and parents of the school.
- Perform secretarial and clerical tasks of a varied nature. Many tasks will require a thorough knowledge of the school’s rules and regulations, as well as the frequent exercise of independent judgment within the scope of the authority granted by the Principal.
- Distribute mail and handle correspondence of the office, responding to routine requests for information, and transcribing, word processing, and proofing letters and responses.
- Type, reproduce, and distribute notices to staff, students, and parents.
- Help coordinate detention and credit recovery.
- Maintain efficient and well-organized electronic and paper data collection and filing systems, including confidential student and personnel files.
- Assist the Principal or their designee and staff in handling interruptions and emergencies, and call for assistance when needed.
- Protect the confidentiality of records and information about students and staff, and exercise discretion when sharing such information within the bounds of the law.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned within the scope of employment.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This is a 10.5-month position with salary and work year to be established by the Board of Education.
EVALUATION:
Performance in this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
