Ascension Global Staffing & Executive Search has been retained by a top-tier AMLaw 100 firm to identify a dynamic Paralegal Manager to oversee and support a team of approximately 125 paralegals across the U.S. and Canada. This is a high-impact leadership role with a respected national law firm known for its collaborative culture, complex client work, and commitment to professional development.
Key Responsibilities
Paralegal Team Management
- Lead, support, and manage paralegals in all firm offices across the U.S. and Canada.
- Provide ongoing workload guidance and ensure appropriate staffing across active matters and special projects.
- Review monthly productivity reports and conduct workflow analyses to optimize team performance.
- Oversee and conduct annual performance reviews.
- Manage overtime approvals and ensure compliance with timekeeping and payroll policies.
- In partnership with Paralegal Chairs, make recommendations for annual compensation and bonus decisions.
- Handle disciplinary matters, coaching, and terminations in coordination with Human Resources.
- Conduct regular check-ins and foster team cohesion through virtual meetings, including annual all-paralegal gatherings.
Recruitment & Onboarding
- Lead the recruitment, screening, and hiring of paralegals across all locations.
- Leverage tools such as LinkedIn and other platforms to identify top talent.
- Participate in onboarding processes and serve as a resource throughout each paralegal’s integration.
- Evaluate staffing levels and resources to assess hiring needs proactively.
Training & Development
- Develop and implement training programs to enhance skills, efficiency, and practice-area alignment.
- Establish and update policies and procedures to drive paralegal excellence and consistency.
- Oversee training and mentorship for entry-level paralegals, including the design and execution of onboarding programs.
- Regularly collaborate with attorneys and paralegals to ensure ongoing alignment with practice group demands.
Additional Responsibilities
- Stay abreast of industry best practices through professional networking and participation in peer organizations.
- Champion a positive, inclusive, and collaborative work culture.
- Offer innovative ideas to evolve and strengthen the firm’s paralegal program.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Previous paralegal experience strongly preferred
- Experience with data analysis or in a law firm finance department is a plus
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism across all levels of the firm
- Highly organized with strong time management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects independently
- Proactive problem solver with strong critical thinking and decision-making abilities
- Client service-oriented with a sense of urgency and responsiveness
- Occasional travel may be required
