Chief Executive Officer

Reporting to and collaborating with the Board of Directors, the CEO will provide strategic vision and operational oversight, ensuring the continued delivery of high-quality services. Key areas of responsibility include financial stewardship, organizational development, team leadership, and program excellence. This is a hands-on leadership role that requires navigating the complexities of industry regulations, championing client rights, and advancing the mission and values of Shared Wellness. The ideal candidate will be a relational leader with a passion for growing organizations, building strong teams, cultivating talent, and nurturing a positive and inclusive organizational culture.
Specific Responsibilities
Leadership
- Provide innovative direction and leadership to all internal and external stakeholders in shaping the strategic direction of Shared Wellness.
- Work in collaboration with the Board to review metrics and ensure that Shared Wellness is positioned as an “employer of choice” and leading national advocate and provider for people with disability.
- Serve as a fearless leader, committed to supporting people, pioneering new paths, challenging assumptions, daring to think differently, and demonstrating how society can ‘raise the bar’ in its expectations for people with disability.
Governance and Strategy
- Partner with the Board to shape and guide the vision and strategic direction of Shared Wellness, including identifying potential opportunities and assigning responsibility for planning, implementation, and review of these strategies.
- Collaborate with the Board in fulfilling the organization’s constitutional, regulatory, and legal obligations, and ensure the Board is fully informed on all aspects of the functioning of The Disability Trust including proactively advising the Board of risks to the organization.
Service Design and Delivery
- Empower the Executive Leadership Team to deliver an integrated systems and services framework which creates enhanced and seamless client service experiences.
- Guide the organization to collaboratively develop a strong strategy for future service delivery, noting a constant and rapidly changing environment.
Business Management (Operational Performance)
- Partner with the Board and CFO to set ambitious commercial goals and seek opportunities to maximize growth.
- Guide operational staff through commercial imperatives, to ensure objectives are aligned with strategic vision, and drive continuous improvement, flexible and innovative services and national change initiatives across the organization.
Quality and Risk
- Empower the Executive Leadership Team to ensure that all services are designed and delivered in a way that is safe and secure for Shared Wellness clients and individuals and effectively manage Shared Wellness operational and reputational risk.
Team and Staff Management
- Foster a collaborative, energized, and purposeful culture throughout the organization, leveraging off the high-performance and engaged Executive Leadership Team and Senior Management Team.
- Model collaboration, consultation, decisiveness and empathy for the Executive Leadership Team, enabling their team to contribute to strategy and deliver on and exceed expectations.
- Mentor staff and ensure opportunities are created for continuous improvement and retention.
- Ensure that at all times, communications and messaging are clear as they are delivered across the workforce.
Strategic Relationships and Communications
- Serve as the face of the organization, leading key partnerships and collaborations with existing and potential stakeholders.
- Engage with clients, families, and the community regularly.
- Advocate for issues relevant to Shared Wellness and its clients by working with legislators, regulatory agencies, and other human services providers to promote legislative and regulatory policies for progress.
THE CANDIDATE
A transparent and unifying leader, the Chief Executive Officer must have an understanding of and passion for the mission and vision of Shared Wellness and the individuals it serves. The ability to shepherd the Shared Wellness team through a period of transition while keeping a strategic eye on maintaining the mission and values of the organization while responding to the evolving needs of the community is essential. The new Chief Executive Officer will be an outstanding communicator and a compassionate, inspirational leader who provides an environment in which all individuals, families, and staff feel encouraged, supported, and valued.
Qualifications
- Authentic passion for the mission; a true advocate with deep respect for the individuals served.
- Minimum of ten (10) years of experience working within a human services organization.
- Track record of executive leadership experience including knowledge of strategies and best practices proven effective in managing a complex, multi-program organization.
- Experience working in a nonprofit organization and working with a Board of Directors, preferred.
- Visionary and strategic planning capabilities and the leadership necessary to ensure its successful implementation.
- Person-centered leader with vision and passion for advocacy who is able to mobilize staff, board, and other stakeholders toward a common goal.
- Executive presence, with superior communication skills to express, orally and in writing, the mission, vision, and goals of Shared Wellness with clarity, passion, and persuasion.
- Knowledge of the principles, procedures, and best practices in services, supports, and systems for people with I/DD (intellectual/developmental disabilities).
- Experience in community engagement, strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, manage, motivate, and develop staff, fostering a culture of accountability, professional development, and high performance.
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically, plan, prioritize, and execute multiple projects with experience building and scaling teams and systems.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Advanced skills with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Ability to lead, influence, direct and motivate staff, community leaders, politicians, and stakeholders to ensure quality services according to the plan, budget, and mission.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a variety of personalities and leadership styles.
- Able to thrive in a changing work environment and effectively manage competing demands and unexpected events.
- Emotionally mature with a good sense of humor and the warmth and sensitivity to work with diverse personalities and situations.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, human services, psychology or sociology, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Must be willing and able to travel occasionally.
- Available to attend events after work hours or on weekends as needed.

Shared Wellness is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities and the broader community through innovative wellness programs and whole-person care. With a focus on inclusivity and accessibility, Shared Wellness empowers individuals, many with complex dual diagnosis of Intellectual Disabilities/Mental Illness/Autism (ID/MI/A), to lead healthier, more fulfilling lives.
Shared Wellness provides an array of services including lifesharing arrangements, home-based supports, and community living arrangements. An established small provider with an excellent reputation that has achieved clinically enhanced status, Shared Wellness currently supports more than 200 individuals across Bucks and Montgomery Counties.
