Job Title: Billing Specialist

Program: Finance

Hourly Rate $20.00

Job Description/Summary

Undertake a variety of financial and non-financial tasks in order to help guarantee the companys revenues. Responsible for collecting, posting and managing account payments. Responsible for submitting claims and following up with insurance companies. Shows a high degree of attention to detail and can work independently. Adherence to laws and best practices in regards to dealing with consumers and data.

Responsibilities

Prepare and submit clean claims to various insurance companies either electronically or by paper

Answer questions from consumers, clerical staff and insurance companies

Identifies and resolves consumer billing complaints

Assume the responsibility of receiving and sorting incoming payments with attention to credibility

Prepares, review, and send patient statements

Evaluate consumers financial status and establishes budget payment plans. Follows and reports status of delinquent accounts.

Reviews accounts for possible assignment and makes recommendations to the Billing Supervisor.

Performs various collection actions including contacting consumers by phone, correcting and resubmitting claims to third party payers.

Processes payments from the insurance companies and prepares a daily deposit.

Write thorough reports on billing activity with clear and reliable data.

Maintains strictest confidentiality, adheres to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations.

Work closely with Finance to design, evaluate, and implement billing processes and system improvements.

Performs monthly reporting on billing and collection status, and provide analysis as needed.

Qualifications

  • Education – High School Diploma or higher level of education; excellent knowledge of MS Office, Excel, and ER software. Proficiency with numbers and processing of financial information. Proven experience as a billing specialist.

The role involves reviewing and correcting tenant ledgers to ensure billing accuracy for a specific property portfolio. Responsibilities include submitting monthly HAP billing, reconciling billing submissions, and supporting field office staff.

Responsibilities

  1. Assist field office staff with questions, data entry issues, and HUD procedures.
  2. Transmit TRACS for properties monthly.
  3. Track signature completion for Gross Rent HUD-50059s.
  4. Support site staff with tenant billing and ledger management, including explaining tenant balances.
  5. Review HUD-50059 certifications for billing accuracy.
  6. Reconcile general accounts (114400, 114401, 114402, 114500, 114600) regularly.
  7. Process monthly HAP vouchers, handle utility reimbursement checks, and return them to HUD when applicable.
  8. Reconcile voucher submissions, post HAP payments, and create bank deposits.
  9. Respond to TRACS errors and maintain at least 90% compliance.
  10. Address questions from Contract Administrators regarding voucher and tenant data.
  11. Organize daily mail.

Qualifications

Experience: Minimum of two years in a similar role; banking or related industry experience preferred. Affordable Housing experience and knowledge of related programs are a plus.

Education: High School Diploma required; COS and Tax Credit certifications are beneficial but not mandatory.

Skills: Strong teamwork and listening skills, excellent math and organizational abilities, good relationship management with field staff, time management, and basic accounting knowledge.

Working Conditions

Standard office environment; some additional hours and travel to properties may be required.
