Assistant Controller Rome, NY Position Overview As Assistant Controller, you will support strategic financial operations and ensure accurate and timely reporting, compliance, and internal control processes. You’ll oversee general accounting functions, financial reporting, budgeting, audit preparation, and key HR responsibilities, including payroll and benefits administration. Key Responsibilities Accounting & Finance Present weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports with budget comparisons. Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts. Oversee banking operations, ACH, positive pay processing, and cash reconciliations. Monitor receivables and payables for accuracy and timeliness. Report monthly on inventory value, backlog, bookings, cash balances, and sales. Manage month-end and year-end closing procedures. Assist with internal and external audits. Coordinate business insurance renewals and liability audits. Support budget development and capital planning. Perform fixed-asset accounting and reconciliations. Prepare regulatory filings (sales tax returns, 1099s, etc.). Assist with customer account setup and credit term evaluations. Provide documentation for tax filings and program credits. Supervise accounting staff (Reception, AP, AR, Collections). Human Resources Onboard new hires and manage termination processes (including unemployment and COBRA). Administer benefits during open enrollment and renewals. Manage payroll processing and reporting (weekly). Handle leave tracking (PFL, FMLA, Disability). Coordinate Workers’ Compensation audits. Oversee W-2, 1095-C, PPACA, and 401(k) administration and annual audits. Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance. 10+ years of accounting experience. Previous Controller experience is a plus. Experience in a manufacturing or assembly environment strongly preferred. HR policy and procedure experience a plus. Skills & Competencies Strong understanding of GAAP (or IFRS), general accounting, and financial systems. Proficient in budgeting, forecasting, P&L analysis, and capital planning. Exceptional analytical, organizational, and time management skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Proven leadership with a commitment to mentoring and team development. High computer literacy; experience with accounting software required. Knowledge of insurance negotiations and compliance a plus.   • Proficiency in construction management and accounting software (e.g., Sage 300, Viewpoint, or similar).
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
