Jaylon Johnson out indefinitely with injury, new report says

Chicago Bears cornerback Jaylon Johnson was forced to leave Sunday’s game due to an injury, and he may miss some time according to a new report.

That bombshell report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Courtney Cronin said Johnson will be out “indefinitely” due to a groin injury that he aggravated during Sunday’s loss to the Detroit Lions at Ford Field.

The Bears are “still evaluating the full extent of the injury” according to the report, and surgery may be required.

Johnson did not participate in the Bears’ training camp because of a groin injury and missed the first game of the season, a loss to the Minnesota Vikings. He was a full participant in workouts in the lead-up to the Lions’ game, but left that contest during the second quarter after aggravating the injury.

Johnson made two tackles in Sunday’s game before exiting the contest, which also saw the Bears play without cornerback Kyler Gordon for a second consecutive week.

Johnson has been one of the NFL’s best cornerbacks over the last two seasons, earning back-to-back Pro Bowl berths and being named an AP All-Pro second teamer in the 2023 season with the Bears.

In 71 career games, Johnson has 216 combined tackles, along with seven interceptions and 49 passes defended, along with four forced fumbles.

Six of those interceptions had come in the last two seasons, and Johnson was rewarded with a four-year, $76 million contract prior to the 2024 season.
