Jalen Hurts responds to reports about teammates' frustration

It comes with the territory.

Jalen Hurts agreed with that assessment on Wednesday when asked about recent reports highlighting that some of his teammates and coaches have grown frustrated with his approach.

It’s something he has learned in his years as a starting quarterback in the NFL.

“It think it definitely does,” Hurts said on Wednesday evening. “I take a lot of the responsibility. I get a lot of attention when things are going well and when things are not going so well. I never run away from holding myself accountable and I think that’s exactly what I’ve taken the approach of doing.

“Even when I look at this last game, I take great pride in what we do on offense, I take great pride in how we go out there and play as a team and what our flow it. We obviously have work to do and that obviously starts with me. That’s always my approach. That’s always me looking internally first in everything that we do. And then in due time, rising above.”

Both veteran Eagles reporter Derrick Gunn and Dianna Russini of The Athletic have recently reported similar sentiments that there’s some internal frustration about the on-field approach from Hurts this season.

For what it’s worth, Hurts on Wednesday said his teammates have not brought those frustrations to him first-hand.

“Y’all bring it to me,” Hurts said to the group of reporters at the NovaCare Complex auditorium on Wednesday.

“Ultimately, it’s about coming in here and working and leading and bringing good energy and showing it by how you work,” Hurts said. “At the end of the day, we are here to play as a team and to play together and find ways to win. That’s where we all have our focus at.”

When asked if he’s surprised about the reports of frustration, Hurts said he isn’t and acknowledged, again, that it comes with being in his position.

The 27-year-old franchise quarterback has led the Eagles to an 8-2 record this season after winning the Super Bowl to cap the 2024 season. But the Eagles’ offense, especially the last couple weeks, has really sputtered.

Hurts this season has completed 66.9% of his passes for 1,995 yards with 16 touchdowns and just 1 interception. But the Eagles have scored just 26 points in their two games since the bye week.

“It comes with the nature of it,” Hurts said. “Everybody is going to have an opinion. I give a lot of respect to those things ultimately. We’re all here to do the same thing. So it’s about the pursuit of that. I’ve always encouraged trying to work together to achieve that.”
