Jackson Chourio sets MLB record, leaves Cubs vs. Brewers game with injury

Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Jackson Chourio got off to a record-setting start in Saturday’s game against the Chicago Cubs, but it ended abruptly as he left the contest.

Chourio, who started in left field and batted lead-off for the Brewers in the game, racked up three hits in the first two innings of Game 1 of the National League Division Series, driving in three RBI’s in the process as the Brewers raced out to a 9-1 lead after just two innings.

Needless to say, that start was history. According to MLB.com’s Sarah Langs, Chourio became the first player in MLB history to record three hits in the first two innings of a postseason game.

Chourio doubled to lead off the first inning, then hit an RBI single later in the same inning to drive in two runs, giving the Brewers a 6-1 lead.

He then reached first base on an infield single to drive in Andrew Vaughn, but on that play he came up limping slightly, and after consulting with trainers and Brewers manager Pat Murphy, he was pulled from the game.

The Brewers updated fans during the game on Chourio, announcing he was dealing with right hamstring tightness, and that he’ll be re-evaluated after Saturday’s game.

The two teams won’t play again until Monday night in Milwaukee, with first pitch of Game 2 set for 8:08 p.m.
