Is Verizon down in Chicago? Company releases statement on ‘issue' for customers

Verizon customers in Chicago and several other U.S. cities quickly reported what appeared to be an outage late Wednesday morning and early afternoon as the company said an “issue” was impacting some of its services.

According to DownDetector, reports of an outage skyrocketed around 11 a.m., with more than 180,000 reports shown around 11:40 a.m.

The outage appeared to be in several U.S. cities, with Chicago among the cities showing a number of reports.

In a message on social media, Verizon confirmed there was an “issue.”

“We are aware of an issue impacting wireless voice and data services for some customers,” the company wrote on X. “Our engineers are engaged and are working to identify and solve the issue quickly. We understand how important reliable connectivity is and apologize for the inconvenience.”

It was not immediately clear how long the fix would take.
