Inmate at Jefferson County Detention Facility dies in custody

A 58-year-old man who was booked into the Jefferson County Detention Facility last month died while in custody Thursday, according to a new release from the sheriff’s office.

Deputies brought Timothy Browne to the jail for drug charges Nov. 19. Then on Nov. 24, Browne had to be hospitalized for “an ongoing progressive illness,” according to the release.

He died at the hospital Thursday. The sheriff’s office will investigate the death, and the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office will determine the cause of death.
