IKEA to open planning studio, pick-up point in Escondido

ESCONDIDO, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — IKEA fans in North County won’t have to drive as far—or battle as much traffic—to plan their dream spaces. The Swedish furniture giant announced Thursday it will open a new “plan and order point with pick-up” in Escondido in Spring 2026, offering a more convenient way to access the brand’s home furnishings and design services.

Located at the Escondido Promenade at 1200 Auto Park Way, the new location will occupy 798 square feet and serve as a planning studio where customers can work directly with IKEA specialists to design personalized solutions for spaces like kitchens, bathrooms and bedrooms.

While this smaller-format location won’t stock products for same-day take-home, shoppers can place orders onsite and choose between delivery or pick-up at the Escondido location. Online customers will also be able to select IKEA Escondido as their preferred pick-up point during checkout on IKEA.us.

“I’m beyond excited to welcome customers at IKEA Escondido this spring,” said Laura Mellor, market manager for IKEA U.S. “No more trekking through that notorious San Diego traffic—now you can enjoy IKEA and our inspiring home design with less hassle.”

The new format, according to brand officials, is part of IKEA’s broader U.S. expansion strategy focused on accessibility and convenience, especially in urban and suburban markets.

“The IKEA Escondido plan and order point with pick-up brings our signature styles closer to the community — making it more accessible, more convenient, and of course, more affordable,” Mellor continued.

What to expect at IKEA Escondido:

  • Personalized design services for larger home projects
  • Onsite order placement and consultation
  • Order pick-up for both in-store and online purchases
  • No in-store product browsing or take-home items
  • No food court – Swedish meatball fans will still need to visit IKEA San Diego for their fix

IKEA has been in the San Diego market for 25 years, opening the first local store in 2000.
