Hundreds of employees are being laid off at multiple suburban Chicago companies in coming weeks, Illinois officials said.
Nearly 200 layoffs were announced at S&S Activewear, located in suburban Bolingbrook, on December 4, according to data from the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity.
According to Illinois officials, a total of 195 employees will be impacted by the closure of the warehouse, with immediate effect. The announcement was made in accordance with the Illinois Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN).
The warehouse provides services for a slew of clothing companies, including Hanes, adidas, Oakley and others, according to its website.
Another set of layoffs were announced at APL Logistics, located in suburban Minooka. That announcement, made earlier this month, resulted in layoff notices to 230 employees in total, with the layoffs taking place at the end of January and the end of February, according to Illinois officials.
10 Roads Express, a trucking company located in suburban Homewood, will lay off 55 workers according to officials, part of a series of layoffs involving nearly 700 workers in the state, according to the State Journal-Register.
According to WARN Act data, nearly 1,400 Illinois workers have been laid off in the last 30 days. Nearly 3,900 have been laid off in the last 90 days, with a majority of those layoffs occurring within Cook County.
