How to donate, support victims of Evergreen High School shooting

DENVER (KDVR) — The community in Evergreen is beginning the healing process after a high school shooting last week, and Coloradans are stepping up with offers to help.

Businesses in the area immediately began rallying to support the community on Wednesday, and some held fundraisers over the weekend to raise money for Jeffco Public Schools.

Last week, Jefferson County said in a post on X that many community members have offered help to the Evergreen community. For those who wish to donate, here are some ways to do so.

Colorado Healing Fund activated

On Monday, Jefferson County said the Colorado Healing Fund has been activated to accept donations that will go directly toward support for the victims of the Evergreen High School shooting.

The Colorado Healing Fund is a nonprofit organization that establishes a secure way for people to “contribute to victims of mass casualty crimes in Colorado,” according to the website.

“There are no words that can describe the emotions this community is feeling as we witness unthinkable acts of violence within our communities. We are here for Evergreen and will stand alongside them through this horrific experience, knowing that Colorado unites in times of need and the Colorado Healing Fund is prepared to help,” said Lori Poland, Colorado Healing Fund executive director, in a press release.

Donate online

Donations can be made online and directed to the Evergreen High School page through the Colorado Gives Foundation website.

Donate in person

Checks and in-person donations can be dropped off at Colorado-based FirstBank locations. Donors should make checks out to “Colorado Healing Fund” and write “Evergreen High School” in the memo field.

The organization said that when depositing the check with bank tellers, donors should make sure to designate their contribution for the Colorado Healing Fund’s “Victim Account.”

Host a fundraiser to send proceeds to Colorado Healing Fund

The organization said that donors can host their own fundraiser to benefit the Colorado Healing Fund. Donors who host a fundraiser with intentions to send proceeds to the Colorado Healing Fund should email info@coloradohealingfund.org.

Where do donations to CHF go?

Donations will be distributed to victims through CHF’s community partners. The organization said that it is working with state and local victim assistance organizations, community agencies, Jefferson County law enforcement, Jeffco Public Schools and the Jeffco Schools Foundation to determine how to best support those impacted.

“We are certain as the days ahead unfold, partners who are actively working to learn of gaps, needs and foci will be a part of discussions on distributions,” a spokesperson for the healing fund told FOX31 in an email.

The spokesperson said that all donations following a mass violence incident go toward victim support, and administrative expenses are “covered by other efforts.” They said that they do not know at this time who exactly will be receiving funds.

In a press release, the Colorado Healing Fund said that it has determined that there will no longer be an administration fee for contributions made during an activation period.
