SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — San Diego Police are investigating a deadly shooting that took place Wednesday night in the Ocean Beach neighborhood.

Officers responded around 11:30 p.m. to reports of gunfire in the parking lot just west of Hodad’s, a popular local burger spot located at 5010 Newport Ave. Upon arrival, authorities discovered a Hispanic man that had been shot in his upper body.
Despite life-saving efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released.
Homicide detectives were called in to investigate the deadly incident. At this point, authorities have determined that victim was involved in a confrontation with two other men prior to the shooting, allegedly punching one of them in the face.
During the altercation, one of the men pulled out a hand gun and shot the victim. The shooter and his companion, both described as White males, then ran away from the scene. They reportedly went west down the north alley of 5000 Newport Avenue, then turned north toward Santa Monica Avenue.
As of Thursday morning, no arrests have been made in connection to the shooting. An active homicide investigation remains underway with detectives working to process evidence, interview witnesses and canvas the area for security footage.
