The Philadelphia Police Department has begun a homicide investigation, officials said, after a one-year-old girl died after she was found unresponsive in a West Philadelphia home on Sunday, Dec. 14, 2025.
According to police, on Sunday, Dec. 14, 2025, at about 2:25 p.m., police responded to a “hospital case” involving a choking child along the 3800 block of Fairmount Avenue in West Philadelphia.
At that time, responding officers found the girl — identified Tuesday as Aura Harnett-Baxter — unresponsive at the home.
She was taken to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced at about 3:13 p.m., police said.
On Tuesday morning, police announced that a homicide investigation had begun into the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.
No suspects have been detailed by police and no arrests have been announced.
But, an investigation is ongoing, officials said.
