MECHANICVILLE, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The Hillcrest Volunteer Fire Department in Halfmoon Fire District 1 has been awarded the Assistance to Firefighters Grant and the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response Grant. The AFG grant was worth $137,142 and the SAFER grant was worth $635,886.
These grants came from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The AFG grant will allow the fire department to buy new personal protective equipment and the SAFER grant will allow the department to invest in recruitment, retention, training, and program development.
The fire department said it plans to create a comprehensive marketing campaign to attract new volunteers, expand training opportunities to strengthen firefighter skills and engagement, hire a professional program manager to oversee recruitment and retention efforts, and partner with a professional marketing company to ensure outreach efforts reach a wide audience.
