Hermantown delays controversial data center permits

Less than 24 hours after the Hermantown city council unanimously approved rezoning more than 200 acres for a proposed data center, the council has delayed consideration for two permitsafter a group opposing the project filed a request for additional environmental review of the proposal,” MPR News reports.

The effects of that change are starting to hit Minnesota schools, retail and health care industries, Sahan Journal reports. “There are still many questions about how the government will spend money from the increased fees, and whether certain industries will be treated differently, said some local immigration attorneys.”

Express buses are set to replace the Northstar commuter rail line from Big Lake and Elk River to downtown Minneapolis in January. The Met Council voted to shutter the rail line due to low ridership and high operating costs, The Minnesota Star Tribune reports. “Northstar’s last run will happen over the first weekend of January as the train will serve fans headed to the Vikings’ final home game of the season.”
