Heat advisory in effect Tuesday as Bay Area braces for hot start to fall

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A heat advisory went into effect at 11 a.m. Tuesday and will remain in effect until 7 p.m., the National Weather Service has advised. The NWS is warning of moderate heat risk for the East Bay, San Francisco Bay shoreline, Santa Clara Valley and the City of San Francisco.

Moderate heat risk, according to the NWS, carries a risk of heat-related illnesses to those sensitive to heat, including older adults, infants, athletes, outdoor workers, and those without effective cooling. The weather service advises drinking plenty of water, wearing lightweight, light-colored clothing, reducing time spent outdoors, and keeping windows open at night.

The Bay Area will be in for a bit of a weather rollercoaster this week with a dramatic cooldown — and even the possibility of rain — forecast for Wednesday.

“Be sure to find ways to beat the heat, stay hydrated, and be prepared for a cool down and some rain chance late tonight and tomorrow,” the NWS said.

BART, on Tuesday, announced it would be running trains at reduced speeds due to extreme heat.
