A group of hairstylists who rented salon suites in Marina del Rey are taking legal action after they say they were evicted despite having fully paid their rent.
Twenty two hair stylists filed a lawsuit against the Phenix Salon Suites in the Marina Market Place in Marina del Rey.
“It’s painful,” said Christine Green, a stylist. “You work so hard to build something from nothing and then somebody else comes and tears it down.”
According to attorneys, the hair stylists did not receive prior notice about the eviction and their contracts required a 15 day notice.
“It was wrongful eviction to begin with, but really there is a breach of licensing agreement,” attorney Jackie Kreuger said. “Each one of these women had an agreement with Phenix Salon Suites, they failed to give them the notice.”
The company failed to pay rent to the building owner while allegedly continuing to charge fees from the stylists, according to attorneys.
The tenants were then locked out of their salon suites and claim they have lost both income and clients.
NBC4 has reached out to the owners of Phenix Salon Suites but has not heard back.
