Four people were found dead Wednesday morning inside an apartment building in the Bronx, law enforcement sources said.
The bodies were discovered around 9:45 a.m. at the Castle Hill Houses on Lacombe Avenue, the sources said. Police were initially responding after a request for a wellness check for the fifth-floor apartment.
All four people were pronounced dead at the scene; the city’s medical examiner will determine their causes of death. Sources said all of the victims showed signs of trauma, and it appeared to have been a murder-suicide.
A gun was recovered inside the apartment, according to the sources. They said the victims include a 75-year-old woman, a 44-year-old man, a 26-year-old woman and a man in his 20s. At least three of the victims were related to one another, the sources added.
Two of those victims were found in the back of the apartment, a third was on the couch and the fourth was by the door, according to the sources. Three of the victims were related, while the fourth was connected to the family, sources said.
A woman who was friends with the eldest victim said one of the others found dead used some haunting words with someone in the building earlier in the morning.
“Her son told someone in the building, he went upstairs to see a friend of his, and she was on her way to work, so she couldn’t visit him,” said the woman who identified herself as Cookie. “He told them, he said, ‘OK, I’m sorry we couldn’t get together, I’ll see you in the next life.’ It’s almost like if he knew something was going to happen.”
Law enforcement officials were conducting a sweep of the area for any video related to the incident.
No other details were immediately available.
