Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, a Democrat, will join Utah Governor Spencer Cox, a Republican, at the Washington National Cathedral Tuesday evening to discuss the state of our politics.
NBC Co-anchor of TODAY and Chief Legal Correspondent Savannah Guthrie will moderate the discussion at 7 p.m. on December 9.
The two leaders from opposing political parties will reflect on leadership in moments of crisis, extremism and how to build civic life rooted in dignity, safety and hope.
Both Pennsylvania and Utah have experienced political violence with the assassination attempt of President Trump in Butler and the murder of Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University.
The event is part of a series at the Washington National Cathedral called, “A Better Way: Sacred Values for Civic Life.”
Prior to the governors’ conversation with Guthrie, the program will open with a special panel of experts on democracy, faith and society moderated by Cathedral Dean Randy Hollerith.
