First Warning: Some heat relief arrives next week

AUSTIN (KXAN) — We’ve heard your cries, and finally, it appears some minor heat relief will arrive after a cold front around the middle of next week.

While a cold front this weekend will bring only a slight temperature change and rain, a second cold front is expected to knock temperatures down more noticeably next week.

Minimal temperature drop expected from a weekend cold front

Our long-term computer model guidance is consistently bringing a cold front sometime late Tuesday or into Wednesday of next week that will bring an end to the consistent 90s.

There’s even signs that we may see Austin’s first nights in the 50s at Camp Mabry since last spring. The coolest we’ve been in Austin this fall, so far, has been the low 60s.

Managing expectations

Will it feel cold? No. Will we get much rain with this second cold front? It doesn’t appear so. Will temperatures finally turn cooler than they’ve been all October? It looks like it.

A persistent break from the 90s looks to arrive toward the middle or end of next week bringing highs in the 80s and the potential for lows in the 50s.
First Warning: Finally a break from the heat

The extended outlooks from NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center point toward slightly higher odds of rain from Oct. 22-28, but temperatures still appear to stay warmer-than-normal, even if they’re looking cooler than we’ve seen most of September and all of October so far.

Still, there’s room for cautious optimism that it might start feeling more like early fall and less like late summer.
