TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — An investigation is currently underway after an alleged fight sent Samaritan Hospital in Troy into a lockdown on Sunday, according to the Troy Police Department. No suspects have been identified at this time.
Police responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at a Troy home at about 7:30 a.m. Some of the individuals involved in the incident reportedly went to Samaritan Hospital after for treatment.
While outside the hospital, additional involved individuals arrived and a fight broke out, continuing into the emergency room, police said. At least one person allegedly had a bat and another had a knife.
Samaritan Hospital was placed under lockdown just before 8 a.m. while patrols responded, according to officials. Two people were reportedly taken to Albany Medical Center for trauma-related injuries as a result of the fight.
Officials said no staff, first responders or other patients were injured during the incident. The lockdown was lifted at about 9:40 a.m., according to St. Peter’s Health Partners spokesperson Courtney Weisberg.
“We would like to express our gratitude to the Troy Police Department and our security team for their rapid response and de-escalation of the situation,” Weisberg said.
The Samaritan Hospital emergency room remains open and continues to treat patients, per St. Peter’s Health Partners. Troy detectives are currently working to investigation what exactly happened in the fight and identify criminal charges.
