ST. LOUIS – A father faces felony charges after after what police described as an accidental shooting involving his son over the weekend in north St. Louis County.
The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has charged Mark Fields Sr., 59, with second-degree assault, armed criminal action, and unlawful use of a weapon.
According to a probable cause statement obtained by FOX 2, officers with the North County Police Cooperative Police Department responded to a scene and found the victim with a gunshot wound to the head. The victim told police that his father “accidentally shot” him, per the statement.
Police located Fields and noted that he showed signs of intoxication, including slurred speech, stumbling and a strong odor. Fields eventually admitted to firing a gun, and investigators recovered the weapon inside the home, according to the probable cause statement.
Fields has a preliminary hearing over the charges set for Oct. 29, per Missouri online court records.
