Ex-principal sentenced for sexual relationship with teen

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – A former female educator at Edwardsville High School has been sentenced to over four years in prison for being in a sexual relationship with a student.

Court records say that Erin Hamilton-Foley, 53, pled guilty on Monday, Sept. 22, to aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

According to prosecuting attorneys at Madison County’s Circuit Court, Hamilton-Foley worked as an assistant principal at the school and the student she was sexually involved with was 17 years old.

Because of her title at the school, prosecutors claimed that Hamilton-Foley had a position of “trust, authority, or supervision.”

Upon her conviction, the 53-year-old will be registered as a sex offender. And when Hamilton-Foley finishes her 4-year prison sentence, officials require her to serve one term of Mandatory Supervised Release.
