Evacuation warnings issued near LA County burn areas ahead of storm

Evacuation warnings were issued for some Los Angeles County residents ahead of a storm that will deliver several days of rain in Southern California.

An evacuation warning, urging residents to be prepared for possible mandatory evacuation orders, was for residents in Pacific Palisades and Mandeville Canyon near the Palisades Fire burn area. Evacuation warnings also were issued by the city for areas south of Runyon Canyon near the Sunset Fire area.

The warning will be in effect from 11 a.m. Tuesday to 11 p.m. Thursday. Law enforcement officers will visit properties in high-risk areas.

Los Angeles County officials issued evacuation warnings near the Palisades, Eaton, Agua Dulce, Lidia, Franklin, Bridge, Canyon, Owen, Hurst and Kenneth fires. Those warnings will also begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday.

The areas are prone to possible debris flows due to a storm that is expected to deliver rain, starting late Tuesday and through the remainder of the week. The peak of the storm will be on Wednesday, when rainfall rates of 1 inch per hour area possible.

flood watch was issued for Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday evening for much of Los Angeles County. Mud and debris flows are possible in foothill and mountain areas, including recent burn scars.

Less than a half-inch of rain is expected Tuesday before rainfall rates pick up Tuesday night and Wednesday, the wettest day of the week.

The Palisades Fire, which started in a Jan. 7 windstorm, expanded to 23,400 acres before it was contained Jan. 31. Twelve people were killed and more than 6,800 structures, including residences and businesses, were destroyed.
