DENVER (KDVR) — A shelter-in-place order was sent to too many recipients, according to a social media post from the city of Englewood on Wednesday afternoon.
On Tuesday night, around 7 p.m., a shelter-in-place was issued in Englewood after police were active in a small area.
However, the alert was sent to a “wider audience than intended,” the city said.
Once the staff were aware of the error, they amended the initial shelter-in-place notification.
The Englewood Police Department said it is reviewing its notification system to figure out what happened and take the necessary steps to prevent something similar from happening again.
“Public safety is our top priority,” said the social media post.
Another issue that arose during the mishap was that the notification only said “EnglewoodCO Alert: Shelter in Place,” which the department suggested did not include enough information.
In future shelter-in-place notifications, more information will be included to give residents a better idea of what is happening and how they can take precautions to remain safe during an incident.
“Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to improve our emergency notification process,” said EPD.
