Elite eight: The personal finance site WalletHub has released its list of the 100 best small cities in the U.S. “The company compared more than 1,300 U.S. cities with populations between 25,000 and 100,000 using 45 indicators of livability, such as housing costs, job availability, school system quality, and restaurants per capita,” according to Bring Me The News. So, who made the list? Lakeville, Prior Lake, Cottage Grove, Shakopee, Woodbury, Savage, Minnetonka and Chaska are all ranked

Record-breaking heat possible: As the summer of 2025 extends into October, the unseasonable temperatures look to continue into this weekend. “Friday and Saturday will be even warmer with highs in the low 90s for parts of southern Minnesota with 80s well up to the international border,” MPR News reports.

Local demographics shift:Minnesotans are getting older, people here are earning less money, it’s dramatically more diverse than it used to be, and compared to other states, more people are moving out of the state than moving in,” according to KARE 11.

Reseeding from the air: The Minnesota DNR is employing a unique method to help keep our wild areas healthy. As WCCO reports, “DNR officials say a helicopter is contracted to aerially scatter the seeds when areas are “too remote or geographically difficult to reach with a crew on the ground. … DNR officials say 19 state forests were aerially seeded this season, adding that 589 acres will be planted or seeded this fall.”
