RIVERVIEW, Fla. (WFLA) — Surveillance video captured the moment a burglar forced his way into a Riverview restaurant on Labor Day, stealing cash and equipment.
The break-in happened around 3 a.m. at Eggs Up Grill, a franchise location that’s been part of the community for five years.
Owner Priscilla Conyers said the suspect ripped the door handle from its frame before heading straight for the office.
“The suspect came in completely broke off the door handle, and came straight to our office,” Conyers said. “They took the entire safe, a 20 to 30 pound safe, and all of its contents inside.”
In addition to the safe, the suspect took two handheld devices used by servers to input orders.
“They took two of our server handhelds, which in the restaurant world, that is literally liquid gold,” she said.
Conyers said the theft was more than a financial loss.
“Just the fact of someone coming into our space of where we work every day, especially in this climate given the uncertainty of this economy, we work really hard for what we have,” she said.
Since the burglary, she has implemented new safety protocols, including a buddy system to ensure employees are never opening the restaurant alone.
Deputies with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office are investigating. Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers.
