AUSTIN (KXAN) — Dripping Springs and Westlake will battle it out Friday to decide who gets District 26’s top seed to the 6A-Division II playoffs next week.
With Lake Travis and Bowie filling out the district’s Division I spots, the winner between the Tigers and Chaparrals will have an upper hand with a home game in the D-II bi-district round. The loser has to hit the road for the opening round, but with District 25 as its pairing, they won’t have to go far. Vandegrift, McNeil and Vista Ridge are in the hunt for two spots in the bracket from that district.
The No. 13 Tigers and No. 15 Chaps are both 4-1 in district play, and Dripping Springs’ one loss this season came at the hands of Lake Travis, 14-7. Westlake also fell to the Cavaliers, but by a larger margin of 31-10.
Dripping Springs is coming off a bye, so they’ve had plenty of time to prepare for what Westlake might throw at them offensively. Westlake clobbered Del Valle 71-7 last week, so they’ve also had some time to look at the Tigers.
Chase Ames triggers the offense for the Tigers with 25 passing touchdowns to five interceptions, and his most explosive target in the passing game is James Montgomery. He has 26 catches, nine for touchdowns, with 633 yards, averaging 105.5 receiving yards per game. Cooper Reid also has nine touchdown grabs for the Tigers.
For the Chaps, Rees Wise has accounted for 19 touchdowns this season, 13 passing and six rushing. Running back Jarren Lopez has rushed for 444 yards and six scores, as well.
The game kicks off at 7 p.m. from Chaparral Stadium, and the broadcast on KXAN.com and KXAN+ begins at 6:50 p.m. You can also watch the game in the video player above.
