Downtown ATV joyride ends in arrest, charges for driver: SLMPD

ST. LOUIS – A noise disturbance in St. Louis has left a Florissant man behind bars after he allegedly rode his ATV in the downtown area “like a playground,” according to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department (SLMPD).

According to SLMPD, the incident happened on Sept. 28, where Mobile Reserve Officers and Anti-Crime Task Force detectives say they saw a man riding an ATV “dangerously.”

Police say the man, now identified as 41-year-old Marvin Coleman, was doing wheelies, weaving in and out of traffic and riding onto sidewalks.

“Officers attempted to stop this reckless behavior by conducting a traffic stop. Officers even used their loudspeaker to order the driver to pull over but he did not,” SLMPD wrote in the news release.

Coleman was eventually captured by law enforcement and taken into custody near Riverview and Hall. The 41-year-old was charged with resisting arrest and unlawfully operating an ATV on a city street.

“We told you — if you use it you will lose it. The safety of our community is our top priority. This type of reckless behavior will not be tolerated, and we will work closely with the Circuit Attorney’s Office to hold individuals who break the law accountable,” said Mitch McCoy, SLMPD spokesperson.

Coleman remains in custody under no bond.
