BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Developer Douglas Jemal is selling the Boulevard Mall to Benderson Development, Amherst town officials confirmed to WIVB News 4.
Jemal bought the mall in 2019 and had planned to turn the mall into a mixed-use site with storefronts and housing. There have been disputes between Jemal and the town over the eminent domain process.
The state awarded the town $31 million for infrastructure work tied to the mall’s redevelopment project in 2023, and the mall closed in April 2024.
Benderson already owns much of the retail space in that part of Amherst, including the Boulevard Consumer Square. The sale comes months after Jemal stepped aside as operator of the Richardson Hotel, with the Richardson Olmsted Campus announcing that it had agreed to take back operations of the hotel in June.
