A dog left abandoned in a sealed box outside a Pennsylvania animal shelter has found a new loving home.
Last week, the Pennsylvania SPCA shared on social media that a dog was discovered abandoned outside one of its shelters, trapped inside a taped-up moving box. At the time, temperatures were below 30 degrees.
When a shelter worker opened the box, they found a dog scared and shaking. Despite being overwhelmed, officials said the dog leaned toward the worker’s hand seeking comfort.
Staff quickly brought the dog inside, where she received medical care and behavioral evaluations. Throughout the process, officials said she appeared calmest when someone stayed close to her.
“We are incredibly grateful someone spotted that box when they did. It was less than 30 degrees outside when she was abandoned. We truly sympathize with the circumstances her previous owner may have been facing, but we also want everyone, including pets, to remain safe. If you ever need help with a pet, please reach out to us, or any shelter or rescue in the area. And if you must surrender an animal urgently, please come inside and speak with someone,” the organization wrote in a social post.
The dog, later named Tangi, was initially placed on a “stray hold” while the shelter waited to see if an owner would come forward. No one did.
A few days later, the Pennsylvania SPCA shared a positive update that Tangi had been adopted.

“We are so excited for her new chapter filled with love, snuggles, and adventures. Thank you to everyone who shared her story and helped her find her perfect family,” the shelter wrote.
