Baltimore Ravens running back Derrick Henry continues to cement his place in the record books, and he passed a Chicago Bears legend on Sunday.
Appropriately enough, that moment took place against the Bears as the two teams tangled in Baltimore on Sunday afternoon.
Henry came into Sunday’s game with 110 career rushing touchdowns, tied for fifth in NFL history with legendary Bears running back Walter Payton.
That tie was broken in the second quarter of the game, as Henry capped off a 12-play, 62-yard touchdown drive for the Ravens, scrambling in from two yards out to give Baltimore a 7-6 lead over the Bears.
Henry will next set his sights on former Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson, who scored 120 touchdowns in his NFL career. Emmitt Smith has the all-time record, with 164 career scores on the ground. LaDanian Tomlinson and Marcus Allen occupy the second and third spots on that list.
Henry is currently 17th on the all-time rushing yards list, but he could pass a large group of players this season, as he entered Sunday’s game just 450 yards behind Jim Brown for 11th on the all-time list. Marshall Faulk, Edgerrin James, Marcus Allen, Franco Harris and Thurman Thomas could all be passed by Henry in short order if he can stay healthy this season.
Payton is still pretty far ahead of Henry in rushing yards, as his 16,726 career rushing yards rank second on the all-time list.
