Denver weather: Cooler temperatures, rain and mountain snow

DENVER (KDVR) — Fall kicked off at 12:19 p.m. Monday and marked the start of a cooler and wetter pattern moving into Denver’s weather.

A winter weather advisory will go into effect at midnight, then continue through 6 p.m. Tuesday as snow levels will drop as low as 9,000 to 10,000 feet.

Mountain passes could become slick with a light coating of snow, and up to 3-8 inches of snowfall will accumulate above 9,000 feet.

Weather tonight: More showers, mountain snow

Rain and a few thunderstorms continue Monday evening, and into the overnight. Low temperatures will be cool, but seasonal and fall to the upper 40s.

Weather tomorrow: Much cooler, more showers

The first full day of fall will bring much cooler and wetter conditions. High temperatures in the metro will only reach the mid to upper 50s, which is 20 degrees below normal for this time of year.

Rain showers will remain in the forecast through the day, and the Denver metro could pick up around half to an inch of much-needed moisture.

The chance for snow will remain above 10,000 feet, which means that some mountain areas could pick up 1 to 3 inches of snowfall, mostly Monday night into Tuesday morning, and mountain passes could be slick, especially during the morning commute.

Looking ahead: Sunshine, warming up again

Sunshine returns on Wednesday, and will get a warming trend going through the second half of the workweek. High temperatures on Wednesday will stay below normal, only reaching around 70 degrees. More seasonal temperatures in the upper 70s return on Thursday, ahead of a high around 80 on Friday.

Sunny, dry and mild conditions continue this weekend with highs climbing to the upper 70s. On Monday, temperatures will be a little more seasonal, reaching the mid-70s ahead of a few afternoon showers.
