DENVER (KDVR) — Engineers are investigating what caused a safety feature to fail after a train between concourses at the Denver International Airport ran with doors open earlier this week.
A train ran between the main terminal and Concourse A with two doors open on Tuesday afternoon, and a video of the event gained attention online.
Before the train departed, a spokesperson for the airport told FOX31 in an email that a passenger had tampered with the doors on the train, preventing two doors from closing.
Safety contingencies that are intended to keep the trains from moving with doors open failed, and the train operator was unaware that doors were ajar, the spokesperson said.
“We are treating this as a serious incident, and the safety of passengers remains our number one priority. We regret this incident and apologize to all who were on the train,” the airport spokesperson said.
The train car with the issue was removed from service, and the airport said engineers began investigating to find the root cause immediately.
The airport said it is working with the Denver Fire Department and DIA’s operations and maintenance partners at Alstom to make sure the incident is properly investigated and does not happen again.
